The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ghana has donated equipment valued at $150,000 USD to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) for distribution to selected health facilities in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, and Northern Regions.

The donated medical equipment, which includes cardiotocography monitors, autoclaves, phototherapy machines, digital blood pressure monitors, delivery beds, mobile dopplers, thermometers, infant meters, neonatal weight machines, resuscitation sets, saturation monitors, emergency/storage trolleys, continuous positive airway pressure machines, oxygen concentrators, and infant radiant warmers, aims to enhance maternal healthcare services in these regions, aligning with the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage.

During the handover ceremony, JICA Senior Representative in Ghana, Mr. Oda Ryotaro, stated that the donation was informed by feedback from clients through the project’s experience of care survey. He emphasized JICA’s commitment to re-equipping health facilities to improve the quality of maternal and newborn services.

Dr. Marion Okoh-Owusu, Director of the Family Health Division, expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it addresses a critical need in these health facilities. She also mentioned that while health facilities are equipped, periodic replacement of some equipment is necessary. Dr. Okoh-Owusu assured that the donated items will be used effectively for their intended purposes at the designated facilities.

This donation is part of the interventions under the Quality of Care for Maternal and Newborn Health with a focus on the 5S-KAIZEN-TQM Project. The five-year project, a collaboration between JICA and GHS, seeks to improve the capacity of health facilities in the target regions to deliver optimal quality maternal and newborn care.

The donated items include cardiotocography monitors, autoclaves, phototherapy machines, digital blood pressure monitors and delivery beds.

Other donated items include mobile dopplers, thermometers, infant meters, neonatal weight machines, resuscitation sets, saturation monitors, emergency/storage trolleys, continuous positive airway pressure machines, oxygen concentrators, and infant radiant warmers. The equipment will be distributed to all levels of care within the Greater Accra, Northern, Volta and Ashanti Regions of Ghana.
