The Ghana Health Service (GHS), in collaboration with its development partners, has officially launched the 2nd edition of the GHS Excellence Awards in Accra. The media launch, which marks the commencement of the nomination process, aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding performance and achievements within the healthcare sector for the year 2023. This year’s theme, “Sustaining Partnerships for Effective and Efficient Healthcare Delivery,” underscores the importance of collaboration in enhancing healthcare services.
Mrs. Araba Kudiabor, Director of the SSDM Division and Chairperson of the Awards Committee, announced significant improvements in the nomination process, including a digitalized system to simplify and streamline nominations and evaluations. She encouraged active participation from management and staff, highlighting the restructuring of assessment criteria based on feedback from the inaugural awards in 2023.
The Director-General of GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, emphasized the awards’ role in fostering national pride, professionalism, and improved customer care within healthcare facilities. The awards will feature three main categories: Individual Staff Awards, Institutional and Leadership Awards, and Special Awards, to be presented at district, regional, and national levels. This year, GHS aims to recognize 2,578 individuals and institutions for their exceptional contributions.
Nominations opened on Monday, 1st July 2024, and will close on Tuesday, 23rd July 2024. Dr. Kuma-Aboagye urged all health workers and institutions to actively participate in the process, seizing the opportunity to be acknowledged for their dedication to quality healthcare delivery.
Dr. Sefah Sarpong Bediakoh, Chair of the GHS Council, praised the commitment of health workers across the country, noting their exceptional service in both urban and rural areas. He emphasized that recognizing their efforts would motivate continued excellence and contribute to improved healthcare outcomes and socio-economic development.
The Grand Awards ceremony, scheduled for October 2024, will honor numerous individuals and institutions at various service levels. This includes 2,372 awards at the district level, 280 at the regional level, and 25 at the national level, celebrating exceptional general staff, institutional and leadership excellence, and special achievements.
