The Department is responsible for:
- Coordinating the formulation of assigned strategies, plans, programs, projects and proposals in the field of preventative health, wellbeing and social mobilization.
- Steering, guiding and coordinating the healthy cities and communities’ projects and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects.
- Steering, guiding and coordinating the Health Promoting Schools/Workplaces Projects.
- Prevention and control of communicable diseases and diseases of unknown cause.
- Directing, guiding and organizing the implementation of surveillance and early detection of communicable diseases and diseases of unknown cause.
- Directing, guiding and organizing the implementation of prevention and control measures for diseases and epidemics.
- Directing, guiding and organizing the implementation of wellbeing centres within all health facilities.
- Prevention and control of non-communicable, and/or social diseases.
- Coordinating the formulation of strategies, policies, plans, programs and proposals on non-communicable and/or social diseases.
- Coordinating the management and implementation of surveillance, prevention and control for non-communicable and/or social diseases.
- Directing, guiding and organizing the implementation of prevention and control for risk factors of non-communicable diseases; coordinate the implementation of prevention and control for harm reduction from alcohol and other alcoholic beverages abuse;
- Guiding the implementation and supervision of vaccination.
- Directing, guiding and organizing the implementation of health promotion’s information, communication and education; communication on preventive health related risk factors.
