Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye
The Director General is the executive head of Ghana Health Service and is answerable to the Ghana Health Service Council. In the discharge of his functions, the Director General is assisted by the Deputy Director General. The Deputy Director General is also responsible for direction of the Service in the absence of the Director General.
The Office of Director General (ODG) provides day-to-day administration of Ghana Health Service as a corporate entity and acts as the lead and steward of the Service. The Office is currently supported by six Departments /Units:

Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye is the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), providing executive leadership and leading-edge strategic direction to enable the Service deliver innovative services and effective healthcare to the people of Ghana.
Dr. Kuma-Aboagye is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health and a Senior Public Health Physician Specialist, has over 28 years of progressive experience as a clinician and public health specialist and 20 years’ experience in health care practice and management in Ghana. He holds a Master of Public Health from School of Public Health, University of Ghana, and a Bachelor of Surgery from the College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Nigeria.
Until his appointment as Director of GHS, Dr. Kuma-Aboagye served as the Director of the Family Health Division of GHS with responsibility for the Departments of Reproductive and Child Health, Nutrition and Health Promotion.
He has published several publications and managed several flagship programs in Maternal, Newborn, Child Health, Nutrition and Family Planning in Ghana, particularly the MDG’s Accelerated Fund (MAF) Program, the Ghana Limited Obstetric Ultrasonography Program for Primary Health Care, the Girls’ Iron Folic Acid Supplementation Program, and the Medical Screening for Schools Program.
Dr. Kuma-Aboagye is a maternal health advocate who has worked relentlessly to reduce maternal deaths and improve survival and wellbeing of women and children in Ghana.
