Disease Control and Prevention Department

The Department coordinates the development of policies, strategies, guidelines, protocols and standards on disease control. Other functions of the Department include:
  • Provision of technical support to regions/ districts on disease control
  • Developing systems for monitoring and evaluation disease control programmes in the Service
  • Development of training programs for disease control staff
  • Contribute to the training of disease control staff
  • Provision of technical support for preparation and submission of grant proposals on disease control and surveillance to health partners and related agencies
  • Contribute to the implementation quality assurance disease control and surveillance programs
  • Provision of technical support to regions and districts to implement disease control activities.
The Department has the following ten Programmes under it and each of them is coordinated by a Programme Manager:
  1. National Tuberculosis Control Programme (NTP)
  2. National AIDS Control Programme (NACP)
  3. Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI)
  4. National Malaria Control Programme
  5. Occupational & Environmental Health Unit (OEHU)
  6. Non-communicable Diseases
  7. National viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP)
  8. Neglected Tropical Diseases
  9. National Yaws Eradication & Buruli Ulcer Control Programme
  10. National Leprosy Control Programme (NLCP)
