Ahafo Region was created on 13th February, 2019 by the Constitutional Instrument 114 with Goase as its capital. However, the Regional Health Directorate is located in Hwidiem. The region was carved out of the south-eastern part of the then Brong Ahafo Region.
The Region covers an area of 5,193 square kilometers and shares boundaries with the north and west by the Bono Region, the east by Ashanti Region, the south by the Western North Region. The region lies in the forest zone and is a major cocoa and timber producing area. Two main drainage systems could be distinguished in the Region namely, the Bia and Tano rivers.
