Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director, Institutional Care Division, GHS. He is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Public Health Physician. He received a Doctor of Medicine, MD (Cuba) in 1999; Specialist in Neurosurgery (Cuba) in 2003, MPh in Public Health (Spain) in 2007, PhD in Public Health (Spain) in 2009, Executive Masters in Governance and Leadership (EMGL), GIMPA-Ghana in 2014, Postgraduate Professional Advanced Diploma in Corporate, Governance, Institute of Directors (Ghana) in 2015, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea has an oversight responsibility over clinical care activities within GHS facilities, while specifically coordinating the following departments: Clinical Laboratory Service, Quality Assurance, Mental Health, Clinical Service, Dental, Eye Health, Physiotherapy, Diet, Catering Service, National Prostheses and Orthotics Unit and Clinical Information and Data Management.

He has the responsibility to ensure the development of comprehensive clinical care policies, sustainable strategic plans, coordination, guidance and development of short, medium and long-term plans and budgets for the Ghana Health Service’s clinical care development, including the preparation of projects and programs budgets for local and international financing consistent with the Sector-Wide/Multi-Sector Approach.

He also undertakes periodic review of the activities and development of clinical governance and infection control systems consistent with national, bilateral, and international expectations. Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea is consultant for WHO, ECOWAS, WAHO etc.

He co-led the application and successful implementation of grants in health system strengthening and clinical specific project sponsored by USAID, WHO, KOFIN, JPiego, UNICEF, EU Commission etc. He has numerous scientific publication and book’s chapters in neurosurgery, medical services, improvement of quality care, nosocomial infections, e-health technology and etc.
