Profile- Regional Health Director Greater Accra

Dr. Charity Sarpong is a Public Health Physician Specialist with over 31 years of experience in the Health Sector.

She has extensive experience in Health System building, Management, Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement and Policy Formulation. She is also a seasoned hospital leadership and management expert with over 14 years of experience in hospital management at both the regional and district level.

She has worked as the Medical Director of Greater Accra Regional Hospital and Tema General Hospital and the Head of Human Resource and Regional Training Unit at the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate.

As a Public Health Physician Specialist, she has worked at the Tema Metropolitan and Greater Accra Regional Health Directorates. She also worked in various capacities as a Clinician in both Public and Private Health Facilities including Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Tema General Hospital and Tema Polyclinic.

She has been involved in several Policy Formulations at the National level and these include the development of the Quality Assurance Policy and Implementation Strategies for the Ghana Health Service, and Policy and Procedures for Infection Prevention and Control Practices in Health Facilities.

She has also facilitated and participated in several Training Programmes and Conferences at both the local and international level.

She holds a BSc. Human Biology degree and an MB. ChB degree from the School of Medical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, a Master of Business Administration degree from the School of Administration, University of Ghana, a Master of Public Health degree from the School of Public Health, University of Ghana and a Diploma in Health Systems Management from the Galilee International Management Institute in Israel. She also is a Member of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
