Regional Director of Health Service, Ashanti Region
The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate (RHD) is headed by Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, the Regional Director of Health Service. He is assisted by four Regional Deputy Directors comprising Deputy Director Public Health, Deputy Director Clinical Care, Deputy Director Health Administration and Support Services and Deputy Director Finance.
The RHD is responsible for policy dissemination, stakeholder dialogue, capacity-building, coordination of planning and implementation of health policies and programmes in the region. Under the RHD, we have 43 Metro / Municipal/ District Health Directorates headed by Metro / Municipal /District Directors of Health Service who provide supervision, technical and management support as well as champion the implementation of health policies and programmes in the districts and sub-districts within the region.
There are 1,654 health facilities comprising CHPS facilities (1,120), clinics (29), maternity homes (71), health centres (165), polyclinics (5), district hospitals (26), other Hospitals (125), Regional Hospital (1), University Hospital (1) and Teaching Hospital (1) in the Region. These facilities are owned by the government, mission, private and quasi-government. Our doctor population ration is 1:7,500 whilst the nurse population ratio is 1:450 respectively.
As the body responsible for health services in the region, the RHD maintains close links with all other agencies of the Ministry of Health, the local government system, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders in health including development partners, and civil society in the region.
