This week, the Ghana Health Service (GHS), in collaboration with the Africa Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners, is conducting a training programme on the management of humanitarian crises.
The training is being delivered in four cohorts, with two cohorts participating each week. It brings together representatives from over 30 departments and agencies, including the security services, to strengthen their capacity to assess risks, coordinate multisectoral response efforts, manage resources effectively, protect affected populations and sustain essential services during humanitarian emergencies.
The programme was officially opened by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea.
The training demonstrates the service's commitment to strengthening emergency preparedness and response, enhancing inter-agency coordination, and building a resilient health system capable of responding effectively to humanitarian crises.
The training is supported by the Pandemic Fund.
