Ghana Health Service pregnancy app — how we collect, use, and protect your personal and pregnancy health information.
Published by the Ghana Health Service. Last reviewed: 29th October, 2026.
Healthy Bump is a pregnancy app from the Ghana Health Service (GHS). It helps you follow your pregnancy week by week, record your health readings, keep track of appointments, follow the care plan your health workers set for you, chat with your care team, and read or watch health education material.
To do this, Healthy Bump holds personal and health information about you and your pregnancy. We treat all of it as confidential. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, how we protect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have.
The Ghana Health Service is the data controller for personal information processed through Healthy Bump. This means GHS decides how and why your information is used and is responsible for protecting it. This policy should be read together with the GHS Data Protection Policy.
Health workers who see your information through GHS systems are bound by GHS confidentiality rules and their own professional duties of confidentiality.
When you register, we collect:

When you use teleconsultation, we collect the messages you send and receive, the time each message was sent and read, any files or links shared, the reason for the consultation, and notes your health workers write about the consultation.
Appointment dates and times, the facility, the type of visit, any notes, and the reminder times for your appointments and care-plan tasks.
We use your information to:
We do not use your information for any purpose that is not connected to your care, maternal health services or running the app.
The app compares your readings with standard healthy ranges and highlights readings that may need attention, such as high blood pressure or fewer baby movements than expected. These alerts prompt you to seek care. They are not a diagnosis, and decisions about your care are made by health workers.
If you have danger signs such as heavy bleeding, a severe headache, blurred vision, fits, or your baby moving much less than usual, go to the nearest health facility straight away. Do not wait for a reply in the app.
Your health information is treated as special personal data under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). We process your information:
You stay in control of what you share:
GHS does not sell, rent or trade your information, and does not share it for advertising or commercial purposes. We share it only with:
We will not share your health information with family members or partners unless you choose to.
If you use the app's share button to send an article or video to someone, for example through WhatsApp, the app you share through handles what you send under its own privacy policy.
We use technical, physical and administrative safeguards to protect your information from unauthorised access, change, disclosure, loss or misuse.
On our servers. Your information is stored on servers managed by GHS or by authorised hosting providers. Only people who need your information for their work can access it, and access is logged. Where information is stored or processed outside Ghana, including by the notification services above, GHS makes sure it is protected through written agreements that meet sections 18 and 47 of Act 843.
In transit. Information sent between the app and our servers is encrypted.
On your phone. Your sign-in session and app PIN are kept in your phone's secure storage (the Android Keystore or iOS Keychain). Copies of your profile, readings, care plan, messages and educational content are also saved on your phone so the app works without internet. They are sent to our servers when you are back online. Signing out ends your session and stops notifications to that phone. Information already saved on the phone stays there until you uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes it.
You can help protect your information:
We keep your information only as long as it is needed, in line with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
Under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), you have the right to:
To make a request, contact us using section 13 or speak to the health facility where you are registered. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. We will respond within the time the law requires.
Healthy Bump is for pregnant women and mothers. It is not designed for use by children under 13.
If you are under 18, we encourage you to use Healthy Bump with the support of a parent, guardian or health worker. A parent or guardian may also help you exercise your rights under section 9.
Information about your unborn baby, such as baby movements and how far along your pregnancy is, forms part of your own health record.
If a security breach affects your information, GHS will act quickly to contain it, notify the Data Protection Commission, and tell you where the breach is likely to cause you harm, as required by section 31 of Act 843.
We may update this policy when the app changes, when our practices change or when the law changes. The current version is published on the GHS website and in the app. We will tell you about important changes through the app or official GHS channels. The effective date at the top of this page shows when the policy last changed.
