The Regional Health Directorate is organized into several key departments, each responsible for specific aspects of healthcare delivery and administration.

Key Responsibilities

Generally, the region implements and monitors health Sector policies, ensures effective coordination of activities, judicious management of health resources (human, logistics, equipment and infrastructure) and provides guidance and technical support to the lower levels. More specifically the region engages in the following:

Ensuring access to health services at the district, sub-district and community levels by providing health services or contracting out service provision to other recognized health care providers in the region.

Undertaking effective management and administration of the health resources within the region

Promoting healthy lifestyles and good health habits among the public through effective and targeted health education

Developing appropriate strategies and setting technical guidelines to achieve national policy goals/objectives

Implementing and monitoring health policies, strategic plans, protocols, standards and guidelines set up by national in the region

Planning and delivery of clinical interventions

Planning and management of public health programmes in the region

Establishing effective mechanism for disease surveillance, prevention and control in the region

Strengthening public health action to reduce impact of emergencies and disasters on health in the region

Supportive supervision, monitoring and evaluation of programme implementation

Human resource management (including staff welfare)

Transport, equipment and estates management

Data collection, analysis, reporting and feedback

Collaboration with key stakeholders in health (NGOs, Community leaders, Decentralized departments, CBOs, etc.)

Office of the Regional Director

The Office of Regional Director of Health Service comprises the following: The Health Information is headed by the Regional Health Information Officer. The Unit is responsible for managing health service data of the region to ensure data completeness and quality for effective decision making to improve the health of the people in the region.

Health Research Unit

The Unit is mandated to facilitate the development and conduct of sound research that meets ethical considerations to promote quality health service delivery in the region.

Internal Audit Unit

The mandate of the Unit is to carry out audit inspection and evaluation of the activities of the GHS Budget Management Centres (BMCs) in the region and to determine whether internal controls put in place by management are efficient and effective in addressing risks associated with the operations of the Service.

Information Communications Technology (ICT) Unit

The ICT Unit provides hardware, network connectivity and application software support services to the facilities in the region. It works closely with all other departments / Unit to sustain the workflow in the network whiles providing the framework for data collection, processing and analysis for decision making at the regional level.
